#5 Should You Start A Private Practice At 50+?
Welcome to Private Practice Lounge, a podcast dedicated to providing therapists with the tools and knowledge they need to achieve success in their private practices. I’m Janessa Borges, a first gen Latina therapist, that teaches other therapists how to grow successful full paying private practices with zero stress.
Are you an LCSW in California completing your DSW, and contemplating the leap into private practice?
Well, I received this email that really struck a chord with me, and I wanted to personally answer it for all of you who may be feeling the same way.
The email read:
“In the grand scheme of things I am stuck. I am a LCSW in CA and will be completing my DSW this summer. I work for [a company] and have been here quite some time. I am very risk averse but really want to make a goal of starting my own practice – at 51 years old – yikes! Any guidance appreciated.”
Now, risk aversion is not something I relate to, but I can understand it. Be warned, amiguita, I’ll be giving the person who asked this question and all of you, my friends, some tough love.
In this episode, I talk all things mindset. A good mindset isn’t only for your clients my friends! Life is short and long at the same time, and with the right clarity and strategy, you can have a successful private practice at any age. Whether you’re 31, 51, or 61 or whatever age, you can do this!
If you, like the person who asked the question, is already asking these types of questions and listening to this episode or finding information about the process online, it’s already in your heart. I hope this episode is what you needed to hear today to keep pushing forward.
Don’t miss out on future episodes packed with valuable insights!

Resource: Are you ready to stop playing small and scale your business?
I’m an expert in reading people, and extracting what you WANT to say and communicate it clearly and effectively to those you want to connect with. (Like a translator)
I put all the puzzle pieces together and help you apply it to your business.
One of the challenges in all the podcasts you’ve listened to, or the expensive programs and coaching you’ve paid for, is that you just didn’t quite get the success you were hoping for.
You didn’t have the individualized help you needed to apply it, or the coaches you have worked with just didn’t “get you.” Right?
The best programs work BUT you need a side-kick to help you apply all you’ve learned (and all you’re missing) so you get the results YOU need!
Even with all of their secret sauces, magic recipes, and playbooks you seem to be missing something…the secret ingredient to make it work for YOU.
My gift is seeing past where you’re stuck. I can see your vision, pull it out of your heart and your mind and create results.
I make sure your gifts are highlighted in a way that speaks to your ideal client, so they say “I want to work with HER!”
